The Plantry App — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 28, 2026
The Plantry app is made by The Plantry Plant Co., a small plant nursery in Liberty, Indiana. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and what you can do about it. It's written to be read, not survived.
The short version: most of your data never leaves your phone. What does leave is there so your points and profile can follow you to another device. We don't sell anything about you, and we don't run ads.
What stays on your phone only
None of this is sent to us. It lives in the app's storage on your device, and deleting the app removes it.
- Your garden — the plants you've saved, their care details and dates
- Your plant journal — entries, notes and the photos attached to them
- Care reminders — schedules and notifications
- Your conversations with Mr. Phileas — chat history
- Identification history — recent scans
What we store on our servers
Only if you create an account. The app works without one; you just don't get the shared leaderboard, and nothing follows you to another device.
- Email address — signing in, and password resets
- Password — stored encrypted by our authentication provider, never in readable form and never visible to us
- Display name — shown on the leaderboard
- Profile photo (small copy) — shown on the leaderboard, if you add one
- Points, level, badges, streak and counts — your standing on the leaderboard
- Friend connections — so you can compare with people you choose
- Wishlist — so we can tell you when a plant you wanted is back
Accounts and this data are stored with Supabase, our database provider.
Plant photos
When you identify a plant, the photo is sent to Google's Gemini API to be analysed, and a description of the result comes back.
We do not keep a copy of that photo on our servers. It stays on your phone. Google processes it to answer the request; their handling is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and their API terms.
The same applies to questions you ask Mr. Phileas — the text of your message is sent to Google to generate his reply.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information to anyone
- We don't show advertising
- We don't use third-party analytics or tracking
- We don't track you across other apps or websites
- We don't collect your location
- We don't record audio
Notifications
If you turn on care reminders, notifications are scheduled on your device. We don't send push notifications from our servers, and we can't see your reminder schedule.
The shop
Tapping a shop link opens plantryplantco.com in a browser. Purchases happen on our Shopify store, not in the app, and are covered by Shopify's privacy policy and the privacy policy on our store.
We add a tag to those links so we can see how many visits came from the app. It counts visits; it doesn't identify you.
Deleting your account
Account screen → Delete Account. This permanently removes:
- your account and login
- your profile, display name and photo
- your points, badges and leaderboard entry
- your friend connections
- your wishlist
- everything stored on your phone — garden, journal, journal photos, reminders and chat history
It cannot be undone, and we cannot restore it afterwards. If you'd rather just step away, signing out leaves everything intact.
You can also email us and we'll do it for you.
Children
The Plantry isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll remove it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your information. The Delete Account button covers deletion immediately. For anything else, email us — we're a small business and a real person will read it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we'll update the date above and note it in the app.
