Everything you need to know before you buy

A word from Mr. Phileas Plant —

"A distinguished plant deserves a distinguished journey to its new home. Here at The Plantry, we take shipping quite seriously. Allow me to walk you through how we ensure your botanical companion arrives in impeccable condition."

How We Ship

Every plant that leaves The Plantry is packed by hand with one goal: it should arrive looking like it just left the greenhouse. Here's our process:

1

Careful Wrapping

Each plant is secured in its pot with tape and cushioning to prevent soil spillage and root disturbance. Leaves are gently wrapped to protect foliage during transit.

2

Weather Protection

We monitor weather conditions along your shipping route. When temperatures drop below 45°F, we include a 72-hour heat pack at no extra charge to keep your plant safe from cold damage.

3

Secure Boxing

Plants are placed in sturdy corrugated boxes with packing material to minimize movement. The box is clearly labeled as containing live plants and marked with "This Side Up" indicators.

4

Quick Transit

We ship via USPS Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, or Priority Mail Express depending on distance and weather. Most orders arrive within 2–5 business days. We ship Monday through Wednesday to avoid weekend delays at sorting facilities.

💡 Pro tip: When your plant arrives, open the box promptly, give it a drink of water, and place it in indirect light. It may look a little stressed from the journey — that's normal. Most plants bounce back fully within a week.

Our Live Arrival Guarantee

Every plant is guaranteed to arrive alive and healthy. If your plant arrives damaged or doesn't survive transit, we'll make it right — here's how it works:

  • Inspect on arrival. Unbox your plant the day it arrives.
  • Report within 48 hours. If something's wrong, email us at theplantryplantco@gmail.com within 48 hours of delivery with a few clear photos of the plant and the packaging.
  • We'll make it right. Depending on availability, we'll send a replacement, offer store credit, or issue a refund for the affected plant. A few bent leaves from transit are normal, but anything beyond cosmetic is on us.
A note on cold and heat: during temperature extremes we include a heat pack and may hold shipment for the safest window. Once a package is with the carrier we can't control transit time, but we'll always help you troubleshoot a stressed plant — most bounce back beautifully with a little patience.

Local Pickup in Liberty, Indiana

Near Liberty? Skip shipping entirely. Local pickup is free — and honestly, it's the gentlest way for a plant to travel, since it never sees a box.

  • At checkout, choose Local Pickup instead of shipping.
  • We'll email you when your plants are ready and arrange a convenient pickup time.
  • Prefer to shop in person? Come find The Plantry at the Richmond Farmers Market — follow along on Facebook and Instagram for dates and what we're bringing.
Pickup details and the exact location are shared by email once your order is placed.

One of a Kind

Nearly every plant in our shop is a single, individual specimen — the exact plant you see in the photos, grown and cared for in our home. When it's gone, it's gone. If you've been eyeing something, it's wise not to wait.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you ship live plants year-round?

Yes, with precautions. We include heat packs in cold weather and may hold shipments during extreme temperature events (below 20°F or above 100°F) to protect your plant. If we need to delay your order, we'll reach out to coordinate timing with you.

Where do you ship?

We currently ship within the continental United States. Due to agricultural regulations, we're unable to ship to Hawaii, Alaska, or international destinations at this time.

How long does shipping take?

Most orders ship within 1–2 business days of being placed. Transit time is typically 2–5 business days depending on your location. You'll receive a tracking number as soon as your plant ships.

What's included with my order?

Every plant ships in its nursery pot with a care card specific to that species. We want you to feel confident caring for your new plant from day one.

Can I request a specific ship date?

Absolutely. Just leave a note at checkout or contact us, and we'll coordinate shipping around your schedule. We understand that timing matters — especially in extreme weather.

Do you sell on other platforms?

Yes! You can also find us on Palmstreet. However, our Shopify store typically has the best selection and pricing.

Are your plants pet-safe?

Many tropical houseplants, including most aroids (Monstera, Philodendron, Pothos), contain calcium oxalate crystals and are considered mildly toxic if ingested by pets. Each product listing notes toxicity information. If you have curious pets, we're happy to help you find pet-friendly options.

How do I care for my new plant?

Every listing includes basic care information, and our blog — The Greenhouse — features in-depth care guides for specific species. If you ever have questions about your plant, just reach out. We love talking plants.
