Hoya 'Compacta' Variegata (Hindu Rope)
Description
✦ THE PLANTRY PLANT CO. ✦
"The Hindu Rope looks as though it cannot decide whether to be a plant or a piece of coral — every leaf curled, folded, and crowded along the stem like rope. The variegated form adds rivers of cream to the tangle. A living sculpture, and slow enough to be worth waiting for." — Mr. Phileas Plant
The Plant
This is the variegated form of Hoya carnosa 'Compacta' — the famous Hindu Rope — whose thick, waxy leaves twist and curl tightly along rope-like stems, here marbled with creamy yellow. In time it produces the classic carnosa reward: clusters of star-shaped, porcelain flowers with a sweet scent.
It is a deliberately slow grower, and the variegation slows it further — which is precisely why a full, well-marked specimen is such a prize. Don't overpot it; the Hindu Rope likes to be a little snug, and it dislikes staying wet.

🪴 Soil: Chunky, well-draining mix.
📏 Growth: Slow — the plant equivalent of a long, good story.
⚠️ Toxicity: Generally considered non-toxic and pet-friendly.
