Hoya 'Rebecca'
Description
✦ THE PLANTRY PLANT CO. ✦
"Give Rebecca a sunny windowsill and stand back. Where most hoyas keep a sensible green, she flushes peach, apricot, and rose at the edges — a plant that blushes. It is, frankly, showing off, and I adore her for it." — Mr. Phileas Plant
The Plant
Hoya 'Rebecca' is a hybrid (a cross of H. lacunosa and H. obscura) beloved for its "sunset" foliage — in strong light the pointed leaves develop warm peach-to-coral tones across a network of darker veins. Bloom-time brings rounded clusters of mauve-pink star flowers with creamy centers, lightly fragrant.
She is fast, forgiving, and generous — one of the most rewarding hoyas for a newer collector, and one of the prettiest for a seasoned one. The more light (short of harsh midday sun), the more color and the more flowers.
Care at a Glance
☀️ Light: Bright, indirect to a little gentle direct — light drives the sunset color.
💧 Water: When the top inch is dry; she runs better lean than soggy.
🌡️ Humidity: Average is fine; appreciates a touch more.
🪴 Soil: Chunky, well-draining mix.
📏 Growth: Fast; trails or climbs with vigor.
⚠️ Toxicity: Generally considered non-toxic and pet-friendly.
