"She hasn't filled in yet, and that's half the charm — every new leaf comes in a touch more cream than the last, and you get to watch the pattern find itself." — Mr. Phileas Plant
The Plant
Peperomia obtusifolia 'Variegata' — the variegated Baby Rubber Plant — is a compact, thick-leaved peperomia grown for its glossy, succulent-like foliage splashed in cream and sage green, no two leaves patterned quite the same. Unlike true rubber plants, she stays small and rounded, storing water in those fleshy leaves the way a jade plant does — which makes her remarkably forgiving of a missed watering.
This is a younger start, still stretching toward fullness with a handful of variegated leaves and roots underway in Fluval Stratum. Give her time and consistent light and she'll catch up to her older sisters — an easy, low-cost way into this variety.
Care at a Glance
☀️ Light: Bright indirect — best variegation comes with good light. Tolerates medium light.
💧 Water: Allow to dry out between waterings; thick leaves store water and dislike wet feet.
🌡️ Humidity: Content in average household air.
🪴 Soil: Rooted in Fluval Stratum.
📏 Growth: Slow and compact — stays tidy on a shelf or desk without much intervention.
⚠️ Toxicity: Non-toxic and pet-friendly.
