Tradescantia 'Albovittata'
Description
✦ The Plantry Plant Co. ✦
"While her purple cousins shout for attention, the 'Albovittata' keeps to cool green and white pinstripes — crisp as fresh linen. And she is generous to a fault: snip a stem, set it in water, and you have a new plant by the weekend. Sharing is rather the point of her." — Mr. Phileas Plant
The Plant
The Tradescantia fluminensis 'Albovittata' — the white-striped inch plant — trails in fresh green leaves striped cleanly in white, a cooler, calmer palette than the familiar purple zebrinas. She grows quickly, fills a pot fast, and is famously among the easiest houseplants to propagate: nearly every node roots willingly.
This plant is rooted in a clear cup of Fluval Stratum and ready to trail. Pinch her back regularly and she stays full and bushy; let her run and she'll spill happily over a shelf or hanging pot.
Care at a Glance
☀️ Light: Bright indirect — good light keeps the white striping bold.
💧 Water: When the top inch of substrate is dry. She likes steady moisture but forgives lapses.
🌡️ Humidity: Perfectly content in average household air.
🪴 Soil: Established in Fluval Stratum.
📏 Growth: Fast trailing — pinch tips to keep her full.
⚠️ Toxicity: Sap can irritate skin and is mildly toxic if ingested — keep away from pets.
