✦ The Plantry Plant Co. ✦
"Mathilde is a cross between carnosa and serpens, and she took the best of both — the substance of one, the neat round leaves of the other, and silver splashing all over the top of them. She also blooms young, which is a rare courtesy in a hoya." — Mr. Phileas Plant
The Plant
Hoya 'Mathilde' is a well-loved hybrid of Hoya carnosa and Hoya serpens, grown for its small, rounded, slightly cupped leaves heavily splashed with silver. It is more compact than a straight carnosa and noticeably quicker to flower — clusters of white, sweetly scented stars with pink centres.
This one is a rooted vining plant in a clear cup of Fluval Stratum, already trailing well. She is happiest slightly pot-bound, so resist the urge to size her up too quickly.
Care at a Glance
☀️ Light: Bright indirect — the more light, the heavier the splash and the sooner the blooms.
💧 Water: When the top inch of substrate is dry. Let her run dry between waterings.
🌡️ Humidity: Content in average household air; appreciates a little extra.
🪴 Soil: Established in Fluval Stratum.
📏 Growth: Compact trailing vine — lovely in a small hanging pot.
⚠️ Toxicity: Generally considered non-toxic and pet-friendly, though the milky sap may irritate sensitive skin.
