⚠️

Winston Flagged. Toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten, and irritating to humans too — the leaves carry calcium oxalate crystals that cause immediate mouth and throat irritation. Keep it up and out of reach of pets and little hands. If a pet gets into it, call your vet or the ASPCA Poison Control line (888-426-4435) right away.

"Every great climber begins somewhere, and this is a splendid place to begin. Look at the windows already carved through that blade — the plant is showing you, quite plainly, what it intends to become." — Mr. Phileas Plant

The Plant

The Monstera esqueleto (Monstera epipremnoides) is one of the most coveted aroids in cultivation. Named "esqueleto" — Spanish for skeleton — for fenestrations so dramatic they reduce the leaf to an intricate framework of veins and tissue. Native to the cloud forests of Costa Rica, this climbing beauty produces increasingly elaborate perforations as it matures.

This is a young starter plant — small, affordable, and already wearing the signature windows that make an esqueleto so sought after. It is rooting into a clear cup so you can watch the roots take hold. Give it a moss pole and bright indirect light, and the growth that follows will be even more impressive than what you see here.

Care at a Glance

☀️ Light: Bright, indirect. East or west window ideal. Direct afternoon sun will scorch the thin leaf sections.
💧 Water: When the top inch or two of substrate is dry. Small cup — go easy.
🌡️ Humidity: 50–70% preferred. Appreciates the higher end while it is establishing.
🪴 Soil: Ships in Fluval Stratum volcanic substrate.
🪜 Support: A climbing vine — give it a moss pole for larger, more fenestrated leaves.
⚠️ Toxicity: Toxic to pets and children if ingested.
