Description

⚠️

Winston Flagged. Toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten, and irritating to humans too — the leaves carry calcium oxalate crystals that cause immediate mouth and throat irritation. Keep it up and out of reach of pets and little hands. If a pet gets into it, call your vet or the ASPCA Poison Control line (888-426-4435) right away.

"Some plants whisper; this one makes an entrance. Observe the sweep of that blade — windows cut clean through it like a cathedral's, and every one of them earned." — Mr. Phileas Plant

The Plant

The Monstera esqueleto (long sold as Monstera epipremnoides) is one of the most coveted aroids in cultivation. Named "esqueleto" — Spanish for skeleton — for fenestrations so dramatic they reduce the leaf to an intricate framework of veins and tissue. This climbing beauty produces increasingly elaborate perforations as it matures.

This is the statement piece: a large, deeply fenestrated leaf with real presence, arching over a clear cup so you can see the roots taking hold. As pictured, it has a few dry tan patches along the edge of the leaf. Give it a moss pole and bright indirect light, and the growth that follows will be even more impressive.

Care at a Glance

☀️ Light: Bright, indirect. East or west window ideal. Direct afternoon sun will scorch the thin leaf sections.
💧 Water: When the top inch or two of substrate is dry.
🌡️ Humidity: 50–70% preferred. Appreciates the higher end while it is establishing.
🪴 Soil: Ships in Fluval Stratum volcanic substrate.
🪜 Support: A climbing vine — give it a moss pole for larger, more fenestrated leaves.
⚠️ Toxicity: Toxic to pets and children if ingested.
