Monstera Standleyana
Description
✦ The Plantry Plant Co. ✦
"A monstera that never makes a hole in its life, and is lovely anyway — long dark-green paddles finished to a high shine and flicked with cream, as though someone shook a brush over them on the way past. Sometimes restraint is the more elegant choice." — Mr. Phileas Plant
The Plant
Monstera standleyana — often sold as the Philodendron Cobra — is the non-fenestrating monstera, grown instead for its glossy, elongated deep-green leaves speckled and streaked with cream. It climbs readily and stays neat, making it far easier to place than its hole-punched cousins.
This one is a rooted two-leaf plant with cream flecking already showing on both leaves, in a clear cup of Fluval Stratum. Give her a pole and she'll climb steadily; leave her to trail and she'll do that just as happily.
Care at a Glance
☀️ Light: Bright indirect — good light brings out more of the cream flecking.
💧 Water: When the top inch of substrate is dry. Rooted in a no-drainage cup, so water sparingly.
🌡️ Humidity: Content in average household air; appreciates a little extra.
🪴 Soil: Established in Fluval Stratum.
📏 Growth: Climbing or trailing — steady and well-behaved either way.
⚠️ Toxicity: Toxic if ingested — keep away from pets and children.
